Oh Christmas

Oh Christmas

A spoken word piece by Andrew Couch

Oh Christmas.
What is it that you are?
Is it being with family amongst this materialistic insanity?
Or the snow.
Oh the light wonderfully white wintery snow.
Maybe it's about the perfect decorations
A creatively set up nativity with everyone in equal proximity.
What is Christmas truly for?
Who are we coming to adore?
Oh Christmas.
Why do we celebrate in jubilee?
Singing in public?
Dancing so foolishly?
Scrutiny annually over if a tree canopy really matters.
Delivering different messages caused by delirious misconception
Maybe "Christmas Love" is just jumbled up spanglish telling us we need more of Christ's love.
It's all so very confusing and at times rather amusing
How he is using and abusing this.
Precious.
Gift.
That's it! That's It!
Oh Christmas!
You're about the gifts!
In this present time it's about who presents the best present.
But which one?
A new toy for a young boy to enjoy?
New clothes?
New kicks?
An under the mistletoe kiss?
What is all this?
I wish I knew.
It just seems like we've missed...
Something.
Or someone.
Oh Christmas.
An event that marked the beginning of life through death.
I present you with the perfect present that sets new precedents.
A King comes out of His kingdom.
Humbly stepping down to ironically take back His crown.
A relationship restored.
This baby boy born.
A scene they couldn't of even come up with for a movie screen.
A story so unconventional yet
Exceptionally impeccable and nearly incomprehensible
How could a leader be a servant and a king of everything?
Above this modernized manmade marketing scheme that is the holidays,
Rests a prominent powerful name.
This name doesn't sell possessions but offers life in a confession.
Some get queazy and wheezy at His name
It makes you uneasy,
But I am pleading that you see the true meaning.
God's mercy in Jesus.
